After a long time (several months), I wanted to use my DELL Latitude E5270. The problem: no boot device was found. The reason for this seems to be the mainboard battery, which died after such a long time of not being used. The notebook was build in November 2017 – so it already turned 6.5 years.
The battery was changed quickly. Luckily a local pc store helped me to find a new suitable battery.
After switching on the Latitude, booting was still not possible. Without the battery, the system might have being lost some boot settings.
Searching for a solution, I found a support article by DELL, which describes some boot settings to start Windows/Linux on a DELL Latitude. And after checking all the settings, I was able to boot the existing Windows again.
To check the settings, I followed these steps:
- From a power off state, power on the system and Press F2 at the Dell logo to boot into the BIOS setup menu.
- Choose General > Boot sequence and change the option from Legacy to UEFI then click Apply in the lower right corner of the screen.
- Choose General > Advanced Boot Options and disable Enable Legacy Option ROMs then click Apply in the lower right corner of the screen.
- Choose Secure Boot -> Secure Boot Enable and change the option from Disabled to Enabled then click Apply in the lower right corner of the screen.
- Verify the Secure Boot -> Secure Boot Enable option is Disabled in the BIOS then click Apply in the lower right corner of the screen.
- Choose SATA Operation -> SATA Operation and change to AHCI mode then click Apply in the lower right corner of the screen.
- Click Exit in the lower right corner and wait for the system to reboot.
